ISHPSSB & ABFHiB 2017 Meeting

Submission of papers

Organized sessions

These activities are submitted by a single session organizer who must also be one of the participants in the session. All sessions will have exactly 90 minutes. This will allow people to move between sessions. Individuals may submit, or may participate in, up to two Organized Sessions. There are two different types of Organized Session:

* Standard talks session

* Diverse format session

The organizer can either invite the other participants, in order to submit a closed proposal; or she/he may use the Conference Board to post the proposal of an Open Organized Session (title and 300 words abstract of the session), inviting other participants to contact her/him before submitting a proposal. The suggestion of open sessions begins on August 1st. Notice that proposing an Open Organized Session is just a preliminary step for submitting a closed proposal.

Submission of sessions, papers and posters: from October 1st 2016 to January 25th 2017 - now closed.

Submissions are now closed.

a) Organized session: standard talks session (90 minutes)

Each session proposal should name three speakers, plus a Chair, who can be one of the speakers but need not be.  In these sessions, each speaker will have 30 minutes total (including discussion).  This submission format requires a session title and 250-500 words abstract, titles and abstracts for each talk, as well as names, affiliations, and emails for all participants. It is possible to submit a double Organized Session, with the same title, six speakers, using two 90 minutes slots.

Participation rule: the simple rule of two.  Any individual can appear at most twice on the program (speaker, co-author, commentator, roundtable participant, poster author) in addition to serving as a session chair.

Other submission requirements.  All submissions will require the completion of a checklist featuring themes and topics that will assist the program chairs in evaluating and scheduling the submission. We encourage session organizers to attend especially to considerations of interdisciplinarity and diversity, both of which are valued by the ISHPSSB community.

Notice that only papers addressing historical, philosophical and social features of Biology can be accepted for presentation. Contributions on any branch of Biology that do not address those standpoints, or contributions to the history, philosophy and social studies of other sciences, are outside the scope of this conference. Interdisciplinary approaches and papers tackling educational issues of history, philosophy and social studies of Biology are welcome.

Due to the international scope of the conference, all papers should be presented in English, independently of the nationality of the speaker.

Before opening the submission form, you should prepare a file containing all the information you will need:

* Your personal information, for pre-registration: Full name; E-mail; Affiliation; Status (student, researcher, professor, etc.); your password (at least 8 characters, including both letters and numbers).

* Session title and 250-500 words abstract; titles and 250-500 words abstracts for each talk, as well as names, affiliations, and emails for all participants.

* Themes and topics of the organized session.

If you have NOT made your pre-registration, you should follow this link: pre-registration form.

If you have already made your pre-registration, you should fill the organized session (standard talks session) submission form. When you click submit a form, whether for an oral presentation, poster, or session, Google Drive opens a window with text stating that the submission was done. The system is very secure and therefore we do not use sending confirmation e-mails.

The pre-registration form will be available at this page from October 1st 2016 to April 30th 2017; the submission form will be available from October 1st 2016 to January 25th 2017 - now closed.

b) Organized session: diverse format session (90 minutes)

Each session should have at least two participants, including a chair who must be one of the participants. These sessions allow a variety of formats, and may be organized as roundtables, panels, dialogues, longer talks, lightning talks, commentaries, films, short theater presentation, interpretative dances, etc. This submission format requires a session title and 250-500 words abstract, as well as names, affiliations, and emails for all participants; further information germane to the particular format may also be included by the session organizer. You can find the sessions of this kind that were introduced at the 2015 Montréal ISHPSSB meeting, searching the following web page for the phrase “DIVERSE FORMAT”: https://ishpssb2015.uqam.ca/programs/detailed-program.html
